Juan Rafael García was born on March 27, 1947 in Salamanca, La Asunción Nueva
Esparta State. He is a
painter, sculptor, musician and a musical instrument maker, a plastic artist
with over 50 years of artistic career.
He studied in the Plastic Art school Pedro Angel González in La Asunción,
Nueva Esparta state (1960-1964), where he obtained the first outstanding student award when he finished his academic
studies. He received the influence of his professor Asdrúbal Marcano since the
beginning of his career. In 1965 he traveled to Caracas and he starts his
studies in the Academy of Fine Arts, in the Free Workshop of Art, in the same
year he began to suffer severe depressions and emotional changes, however he
continued with his studies with the initial enthusiasm; But despite his efforts,
his delicate condition became worse forcing him to abandon his studies for over
two years.
In 1972
Juan García discovered by chance a technique to paint, he pointed out:
"I was prowling around the foothill of the Matasiete Mountain with some friends and suddenly I saw a sandal sole hanging from the tree, the sole was cracked because of the time and I don't know why I associated it with old paintings. I took the sole and when I came home I began to utilise it like a brush"That’s how it began his impressionist period, he studied the works of impressionists artists, specially Claude Monet And the representative of pointillism George Seurat, among others.
During his
artistic career he has received numerous awards and recognitions, these
included:
- Painting Award Ateneo de Caracas. (1964).
- First Award Rotary Club of Margarita (1965).
- First Award of Landscaping, 2nd Hall of Art Fondene, Pampatar, State of Nueva Esparta (1976).
- Popular Award, 3rd Fondene Hall, (1977).
- Regional Award of Visual Arts Pedro Ángel González, (1995).
